If not you, then who?
As a small business owner, publicity is usually not something you can delegate to someone else. Yes, you can hire marketing companies, and sales people, but in addition to that it's vitally important for you the business owner to get out there and tell folks about your company. - Be the promoter of your own business - It helps people get to know you and decide if they want to do business with you. - It personalizes your business to people. - It’s very effective for marketing - There’s rarely any better form of marketing for a small business Find out more about Mike and Maria Keiser, The Entrepreneur Circle, and other small business solutions http://mentalcompass.com New Episodes every week. Don’t Blow Your Marketing Budget on Stuff You Don’t Need
We’ve seen several recent examples of businesses buying alleged marketing products that they either didn’t need or they weren’t sure if they needed it. - $45,000 on TV appearances - Paid search tools - New websites These things are not necessarily bad in and of themselves but be weary of spending money on things without having a marketing plan. What should you do… - Have a marketing plan – work with an expert if you need to - Base your marketing purchases on the tools your plan calls for - Measure – monitor - Be thoughtful about your marketing purchases - Avoid shiny objects - Be willing to take risks, but have a reasonable idea if something will work or not. Never Apologize for your Price
Today's video will show you how being proud of your price (no matter what you are charging) will in fact make you more profitable. When does price matter? What will the market place pay? How to charge for your services? Why are some people willing to pay a high price for something, when they know they can get it elsewhere cheaper? Are questions we get all the time. What you can do instead... - Be competitive with price but don’t sell yourself short. - Be great at what you do and be great at getting your message out, instead of competing over price. - Don’t be nervous that people won’t want to work with you because of price, even when it’s true. Lesson I learned about business from playing Fruit Ninja
Sometimes you can have the most profound ah ha moments at the most unexpected times. Watch this video to find out how a game of Fruit Ninja helped me to: - Think bigger - Get out of a rut - Take more risks - And grow my business. As small business owners, we can often have that - "It's for all the beans mentality" - I can't right now thinking - or the someday, but not now mindset Find out more about Mike and Maria Keiser, The Entrepreneur Circle, and other small business solutions http://mentalcompass.com New Episodes every week. An Important Sales lesson for Business Owners
Ok...In keeping with the integrity of the show, we admit, this one is a little longer than most. Sometimes it has to be done. We recently learned 2 difficult sales lessons (same lesson but 2 different people) Quit trying to convince people of anything, especially when it comes to sales. You end up having circular conversations that lead to frustration on both ends. Why does this happen? - We (People) have a need to be right, even at the sacrifice of results - When we are in a convincing mode we feel defensive and stubborn - Maybe they just don’t believe you What can you do instead? - Provide people with great information and let them self select - Choosing not work with people that need constant convincing - Don’t take it personally For more answers to your marketing questions visit The Entrepreneur Circle and Mike and Maria Keiser visit www.mentalcompass.com To subscribe to this video series https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWWnmpONTiC_xxyJXU4JlfUQZ9MI1X3HD The Entrepreneur Circle is located in Connecticut and helps small business owners solve their marketing needs. -
My business is different
In the 22 years we have been in business we can’t tell you how often we hear the words “Yeah but…My business is different” Of course, your business is different, it’s your business. That being said, all businesses have the same basic foundation. • Sales • Marketing • Operations • Finance Without the above, you don’t have a business. Quite frankly, without customers, the rest doesn’t really matter. All businesses need to market themselves to attract new customers. In today’s episode we discuss the trap of “My business is different”. How do I keep a good new habit going?
"I started doing this new thing, it's working, and want to make sure I keep doing it." Imagine if we stuck to every good thing we started? This show idea was brought to us by a loyal fan of the show. About 7 weeks ago we were talking about a new practice he had started the week prior. He went on to say how it was really making a difference in his day and was wondering how he could insure he stuck to the daily task. He thought it would be a good show topic to explore the concept of sticking to something. Find out more about The Entrepreneur Circle, and other small business solutions http://mentalcompass.com -
I Hate Change
Somebody once said, I love progress. It’s change I can’t stand. For better or worse, it is imperative to embracing change. Sometimes when I start working with someone at The Entrepreneur Circle, they say, “Just don’t try to get me to do any of that technology stuff”. My response is always the same. I am not here to teach you about technology, I am here to help you work on the things that you think aren’t working in your business. I promise that I will only introduce “technology stuff” If we find a technology solution that will help you solve your problem. This seems to be a reasonable response, and they accept. As a technology immigrant (Anyone born before1980) we can sometimes try to hold on to the old ways of doing things. - We develop habits - We hate change - it’s not comfortable However, if we can look at change as - a solution to a problem - a way to get things done cheaper and faster - a way to create a better customer experience - a way to generate more leads Change becomes more palatable and helps us - Embrace a culture of forward thinking - Be open with yourself about changes in your market and industry - Continually learn - Stay on top of it - Don't get left behind Find out more about The Entrepreneur Circle, and other small business solutions http://mentalcompass.com -
It's Not Your Passion if You Need a Reminder
Do you find that you are telling people/staff that the company is going in this direction on a monthly basis? Have you been working on something for a long time, and yet you still don’t have any traction? Are you the person that is always telling someone it’s almost ready, we just need to do this one last thing? Do you always have big plans, but can never seem to get them done? Sometimes at The Entrepreneur Circle we run into this client. They have shinyobjectitis. In truth, they have made a career of changing plans. They just think they are trying to grow their business. Today we want to share the story of that someone who for years, talked about all the big things they were going to accomplish, the big new direction their business is going to go, etc. We will also share how he turned it around and started to see real measurable results. Life is a Perspective
Thanks for watching our first Daytona Beach Shores version of Duct Tape and Popsicle Sticks. I’m so excited. We’re living a dream come true and spending an extended period of time working remotely from the beach in Florida. While Maria was walking on the beach today and thinking about our business, she had an interesting idea to share with you. -
Don't be Afraid to Fail
Today we want to talk to you about something so simple but so important. It’s the fear of failure. We know someone who, for years, has been talking about all the things they’re going to do. He uses a lot of words and shares big, grand plans but nothing ever comes of them. Truly, nothing has talked about since we’ve known him has come to fruition. Why?? Because he’s afraid to fail. -
One Better Decision
Here’s a concept Maria came up with several years ago. Like most of the things we talk about on this show, it’s so simple but can make a huge difference in your business and life. She calls it one better decision.
